Muslims, markets, and the meaning of a "good" education in Pakistan

Article Abstract:

The nature of local educational demands in Pakistan and the questions regarding the implications of market-oriented education reforms in Pakistan and other parts of the Muslim world are examined. A survey in and around the city of Rawalpindi, a prominent city in Pakistan shows that parents favor religious education, as opposed to secular education, far more than international education-sector reforms are inclined to expect.
