Papua New Guinea in 2006 saw a lot of reshuffling and new faces in the Cabinet, most noted being the ouster of the finance minister responsible for Papua New Guinea's economic recovery. The country's economic situation remained stable throughout the year helped by record prices for commodities, minerals and oil, and the private sector grew along with the growth in employment.

The economy continued to center on two main sectors, textiles and tourism, while the removal of worldwide textile quotas had no impact on the Cambodian industry.
