Papua New Guinea in 2006: Somare's U-turn and legacy

Article Abstract:

Papua New Guinea in 2006 saw a lot of reshuffling and new faces in the Cabinet, most noted being the ouster of the finance minister responsible for Papua New Guinea's economic recovery. The country's economic situation remained stable throughout the year helped by record prices for commodities, minerals and oil, and the private sector grew along with the growth in employment.

Cambodia in 2005: Year of reassurance

Article Abstract:

A study shows that following two years of heated election campaigns and post-electoral rifts, 2005 marked a period of reconciliation and 'optimistic imperative' for Cambodia. The economy continued to center on two main sectors, textiles and tourism, while the removal of worldwide textile quotas had no impact on the Cambodian industry.

Cambodia in 2006: Self-promotion and Self-deception

Article Abstract:

The year 2006 has proved to be economically good for Cambodia, but the country remains full of social constraints. Its foreign policy priorities continue to be aimed at survival within the Chinese-Vietnamese-Thai power triangle, while also adhering to multilateral alliances and good relations with donors.
