The concept of friendship has been overlooked as an issue in the writings of Siegfried Kracauer. Kracauer viewed friendship as a concept characterized by a sense of otherness, community, ethics, and political ideas. His texts on friendship are distinguished by their folds and tropes, which convey the notion that the dynamics of friendship can be expanded into the larger community. The type of democratic community which can be envisioned in his work is also discussed.
