The lack of security cooperation between Southeast Asia and Japan: Yen Yes, Pax Nippon No

Article Abstract:

Common threats, mutually conducive goals, and institutional safeguards play an important role as a security for Japan in Southeast Asia. Offensive realism, defensive realism, Association of Southeast Asian Nations' (ASEAN) strategic culture, and definitional differences that provide greater explanatory power for this state of affairs are further demonstrated.

The effect of the banking crisis on the financing environment for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Japan is discussed. Reforms instituted in April 1998, called the Big Bang, are also examined.
