Unemployment and cross-country income differences

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to show that unemployment is favorable to monopoly rights. A high unemployment rate causes monopolies to realize that it is difficult to find new jobs. Because of this, monopolies can protect their vested interests by lobbying government to set high standards to potential entrants with superior technologies.

Optimal policies in a three-sector economy with open unemployment and surplus labor

Article Abstract:

A study suggesting optimal wages and human resources policies for three-sectors i.e., subsistence agriculture sector, commercial agriculture sector and manufacturing sector, is presented. The study also examines the effect of labor surpluses in rural regions on unemployment in urban regions due to migrant laborers.

Tourism, guest workers, and resident immiserization

Article Abstract:

The authors find that guest workers working in the tourism industry can have a negative effect on home workers when there is unemployment.
