A childhood of whiz, poppers and crack

Article Abstract:

In Newham, east London, England, it is common for school children to take drugs. Most begin with crack, to be in with their mates. The Newham Drugs Project has been invited into schools to talk to pupils about drugs. Some children do it because of problems at home or school and some do it because their parents or relatives take drugs. They sell drugs to each other at school. The use of crack in schools is widespread, but it does not show up in drug projects because they mainly deal with HIV work.

Crack team with a winning streak

Article Abstract:

The Crack Awareness Team (CAT), founded in Nottingham, UK, in 1993, is one of nine drugs projects in the UK run by the APA Community Drug and Alcohol Units drugs agency. The project in Nottingham is the only one where the team workers shadow their clients and deal directly with the drugs underworld on behalf of these clients. For this reason, it has been much more successful than the other projects. It has dealt with 400 addicts, of whom 106 have stopped using crack or reduced their consumption.

Here's mine, where's yours?

Article Abstract:

Body piercing is very popular in 1993, as many pop stars have pierced nipples. The fashion follows on from tattooing, which is no longer considered rebellious. Piercing arrived in the UK in about 1893, but became associated with the S/M scene. The typical client is between 25 and 35 and may be gay. Some businessmen have pierced nipples under their suits. Some people have their nose, navel and genitals pierced with metal rings and ampallangs.
