A fair cop?

Article Abstract:

A live edition in Channel 4's documentary series 'Trial and Error' to be broadcast on Jul 8, 1997 will make direct appeals for witnesses to help provide new evidence in a number of cases where it is claimed a wrongful conviction has been made. This approach has attracted considerable controversy, with some observers dismissing it as simply a ploy to boost audience numbers. However, producer Stephen Phelps believes that there is considerable potential to broadcast live programmes of this kind regularly, as miscarriages of justice are a sensitive public issue.

100 days to save the sinking channel

Article Abstract:

ITV, the largest commercial television channel in the UK, is determined to take action to prevent viewers being lost to both terrestrial and cable and satellite channels. The new management team has expressed its willingness to set public targets for peak time audiences, a move which will be welcomed by advertisers. Efforts will also be made to improve ITV's audience profile, which is currently seen as more down-market and older than that of its competitors.
