A little brother, a lot of guilt

Article Abstract:

Brothers and sisters of handicapped children are often at a disadvantage and have special needs, such as counselling. Mencap offers a sibling support service for parents. Brothers and sisters of handicapped children are often left to their own devices as the handicapped child takes up most of the parents time. Siblings are under constant pressure from the handicapped child's unpredictable moods and volatility. Most feel resentment for having a brother or sister who is 'different' and for not being the centre of attention. This resentment usually triggers off a sense of guilt.
