Artistic originality has never been a strong tradition in India, as it has in the western world. Indian artists continue to draw inspiration from artistic styles from around the world, and they are not concerned whether their style is ancient or modern. Collectors should regard the cosmopolitan nature of Indian art as a positive factor, making it extremely varied. Indian art will only become really popular in the western world if collectors can move away from the attitude that copying is to be condemned.

Limited-edition first-day cover stamps are generally not worth very much, especially as so many have been issued over recent years. Only first-day covers with a 'relevant,' often humorous, postmark have any potential value. Some first-day cover producers make specially arrangements to have a limited number stamped at a particular post office which has a name which links in well with the subject of the stamps concerned.

Even museums can sometimes unwittlingly display forged thimbles, and ordinary people commonly invest large sums of money in thimble collections which later prove to be of very little value. The most high respected dealers and collectors are very dubious about many of the thimbles which are offered for sale at high prices, especially those which are claimed to be Roman.
