Brian's diary

Article Abstract:

Top social events in the UK such as the Henley Regatta tend to attract people who want to be seen, rather than who are genuinely interested in what is taking place. Those who have social aspirations often dress extremely conspicuously. In contrast, genuine members of the traditional upper classes prefer to avoid the limelight. Indeed, many now avoid the most popular social events. They are focusing on the smaller events, which are thus undergoing a revival.

A slick convertible and a couple of fast models aren't going to turn my head. Oh no

Article Abstract:

There was a great deal of fashion and glamour associated with the 1999 London Motor Show, with the cars themselves almost seeming to be less important than the many celebrities who attended. Rover, for example, staged a fashion show with supermodels Sophie Anderton, Jodie Kidd and Kate Moss, while Citroen used Claudia Schiffer to promote its Xsara model. A few manufacturers, such as Ferrari, prefer to avoid fashion and glamour altogether, while others adopt a more subtle approach.
