A solution to our electoral problems worth voting for
Article Abstract:
The UK government has decided to establish a commission under the chairmanship of Roy Jenkins to consider a voting system which would be along the lines of proportional representation. It is widely accepted that the UK's current electoral system leaves ordinary people largely alienated from the political process. Furthermore, it leaves small parties with a much smaller proportion of seats in Parliament than their proportion of the overall vote. It may be worth considering adding extra MPs at local or regional level to balance up party representation.

It narrows the mind and distends the stomach, so let's travel less
Article Abstract:
It is possible to argue that there are many negative aspects to the modern obsession with long-distance travel. Humanity has exhausted the instinct to explore, and travel now seems to serve no real purpose. Many people suffer ill-health when they travel abroad, and there are also strong environmental reasons for not travelling. It is clear that international travel does not make people more understanding of other cultures. In any case, other cultures can be studied from your own home through the television and the Internet.
