A walk on the mild side

Article Abstract:

The Lake District region of England can be enjoyed in a number of different ways. Some people choose to explore the region largely by car, while others enjoy strenuous walks. It is also possible to participate in organised walks, benefiting from the extensive knowledge of those who lead the walks. The town of Keswick, England, has become much more cosmopolitan and welcoming in recent years, and is attractive for spring breaks. It is also worth considering a walk up Blencathra, although this can be difficult in poor weather.

Old habits die hard

Article Abstract:

The Sanctuary of La Verna, located between Florence, Italy, and Urbino, Italy, has 24 resident monks and two nuns. It also takes in paying guests, who stay in very basic but quite adequate accommodation. The food is very simple, and guests are expected to retire to bed at 9.30pm. However, the monastery has a very peaceful and spiritual atmosphere, and is located in beautiful surroundings. Guests can walk to La Penna, the mountain peak where St Francis and his associates meditated and prayed.

Eccentric splendour in the Florentine Hills

Article Abstract:

A 10-day walking holiday in the Florentine Hills, such as that organised by Headwater, can be extremely interesting and relaxing. The weather can be very hot in mid-summer, so it is vital to be fully prepared and carry a lot of water. However, most walks pass through shady areas, and many hotels have swimming pools. The visitor can enjoy peaceful wooded valleys, olive groves, vineyards and beautiful hills.
