Christians out of the lions' den

Article Abstract:

Parents who wish to ensure that their children will have the opportunity to go to university should make financial arrangements well in advance. A reasonably large lump sum can be held in a building society postal account paying a high level of interest, while a longer-term investment can be made in a PEP. If possible, accounts should be held in the name of someone who is only a basic rate taxpayer. Families who are concerned to make ethical investments should look at companies such as Friends Provident.

A crash course in debt

Article Abstract:

The majority of students in the UK now face financial difficulties, with more than half of all students in their final year being more than 3,000 pounds sterling in debt. Young adults preparing to enter university should be aware of the need for financial planning if they are to avoid ending up in this situation too. It is worth seeking support from a student adviser and drawing up a budget. A loan is the best way of borrowing, but a loan can only be applied for once in each academic year.
