Ain't life simple?

Article Abstract:

Sarah Ban Breathnach's book 'Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort and Joy' has become extremely popular in the US, where it has sold more than 1 million hardback copies and has been on the New York Times bestseller list since Apr 1996. This may be regarded as surprising, given that it is very different from books for women which have been published over recent years. It emphasises a quiet, gently ordered life in which women can focus on simple pleasures such as cooking and creating a comfortable home.

John and Jill at the end of the rainbow

Article Abstract:

The romance between former hostage John McCarthy and Jill Morrell caught the public imagination in the UK, especially as both were from very ordinary backgrounds. Their love was seen as overcoming great adversity in a way to which many ordinary people aspired. However, the couple have now split up, possibly as a result of the pressure of excessive media attention. It seems that they have now worked through their experiences and have decided that they are ready to move on separately.
