Airport retailing

Article Abstract:

In 1994, the airport retailing market was valued at 630 million pounds sterling, representing a 62% rise on 1990 as a result of increased numbers of travellers, higher per capita expenditure, and more retail floorspace. Of total sales in 1994, 80% was made up by tax- and duty-free shopping. An overview of the airport retailing market is provided, including details of economic and demographic influences, market data, shopper profile, airport operators and retailers, advertising, and prospects for the future.

Petrol forecourt retailing

Article Abstract:

The petrol forecourt retailing sector provides a range of fuel and non fuel products through retail outlets. Research shows that the number of petrol filling stations (PFSs) has halved during the past 30 years and there is now an increased sophistication in the approach to retailing, particularly in the forecourt shop. There is an increasing acceptance of forecourt shops as a destination for shopping. The core products are tobacco and confectinery, whilst car care and oils sales have declined.
