Albert Eggler

Article Abstract:

Mountaineer and lawyer Albert Eggler began mountaineering seriously while studying law at Bern University, Switzerland. He was elected to the Academischer Alpen Club of Bern in 1934, and subsequently climbed most of the classic Alpine routes. He served for a total of 2,000 days in Switzerland's militia army, and in 1965 became chief of the Army Avalanche Service. He worked for many years as a lawyer for the Federal Tax Administration, and later created his own legal practice.

Article Abstract:

Cave explorer and climber Robert Parker showed an interest in adventure sports from an early age. He began climbing on the cliffs of Dorset, England, and later explored caves in the Mendip hills, gaining a reputation as one of the leading cave explorers in the UK. He established a close relationship with leading US cave diver Bill Stone, and undertook many expeditions, both in the UK and abroad. He linked with Julian Walker to establish the Bristol Climbing Centre in 1992.

Sid Cross

Article Abstract:

Climber, mountain rescue leader and hotelier Sidney Cross began rock climbing at the age of 14. He trained as a cobbler, but in 1945 purchased a run-down hotel in Eskdale, England, with fellow climbers. He was a leading figure in Lakeland rock climbing in the 1930s, and in 1949 created a rescue service to cover the mountains around Langdale. He was president of the Langdale/Ambleside mountain rescue team almost until his death.
