Ending the unfairness of state guaranty funds
Article Abstract:
State guaranty funds should cover guaranteed investment contracts (GIC) if the insurer covering the policy becomes insolvent. Currently, states such as California and Missouri exclude GIC coverage, while other states such as Georgia and Texas limit coverage. Additionally, many states mandate that retirees be a state resident before the state's guarantee fund can cover pension losses. This variation in state coverage should be eliminated because pension GIC investment decisions are not limited to the boundaries of any one state.

Students who spend a year abroad as part of their university course can find this a very valuable experience. It enables them to gain understanding of other cultures and to break down language and social barriers. Some students living abroad can encounter prejudice, and this is not helped if their predecessors have behaved in unacceptable ways. It is important to consider the practical aspects of living abroad, and in particular to make adequate financial arrangements.
