Ambridge it's not, but the tale of village life has farmers hooked

Article Abstract:

The Kenyan soap opera 'Tembea Na Majira' ('Move With the Times') has local colour specific to Africa, but addresses international issues such as corruption, family conflict and death. The programme, which attracts 9 million listeners twice a week, became the country's second most listened to radio programme after the news within six months of first being broadcast in 1995. It has subtly educated many ordinary Kenyans on subjects including safe sex and organic farming methods.
