An identity born of injustice

Article Abstract:

The case of Cheryl Tooze, who campaigned tirelessly for the release of her boyfriend Jonathan Jones, who was serving two life sentences for the murder of her parents, has attracted considerable media attention. He has now been released after serving two and a half years, and there are still no real clues as to the true identity of the murderer. The couple came from very ordinary backgrounds, and many people have therefore been able to identify with them. Many unanswered questions remain, but she has gained respect for her great determination.

Mickey's real lesson for Mandelson: the American dream isn't British

Article Abstract:

UK Minister without Portfolio Peter Mandelson must learn some lessons from Disneyworld as he considers how to fill the Millennium Dome in Greenwich, London, England. The Dome must be made as weatherproof as possible, for example, and must have fast food restaurants capable of coping with large crowds. The Dome will have to educate and inform, but must also be aligned with the lowest common cultural denominators. It is likely that the Dome will never show the style, profitability and consistency of Disneyworld.

Europe turns left, but pragmatism rules

Article Abstract:

The left wing has established a strong presence in countries throughout western Europe. The new socialist leaders in countries including the UK and France have a considerable amount in common, with their policies generally being characterized by pragmatism. Socialism in its modern form has become a way of governing European countries so that they do not become like the US. However, there are still significant differences between the way in which socialism operates in individual countries.
