And now for the hard part

Article Abstract:

President-elect Bill Clinton who will be inaugurated on Jan 20, 1992, giving him the opportunity to create a changed country. A Democrat will be in power for the first time for 16 years. Clinton models himself on Franklin D Roosevelt. He is a good mediator and has a natural moderation. His main task is the national economy; he was elected 'to restore the American dream.' Increased taxes on the rich and foreign businesses, together with cuts in the defence budget, will finance a four-year job-creation programme.

Public waits for Clinton to fulfil its hopes

Article Abstract:

When Bill Clinton takes office as president he will not reduce the White House staff and is more likely to increase taxes than reduce them. Executive orders will legalise abortion counselling, research on foetuses, and permit homosexuals in the armed forces. The main issues to be resolved are campaign finance reform, the National Service Trust Fund assuring university education for everyone, health care reform, reduction of the federal budget and improvement of long-term public investment.
