Any old iron will do as smugglers hit hard times

Article Abstract:

Albania was heavily involved in the smuggling of a wide range of goods into the former Yugoslavia during the conflict there. Nowadays, smuggling is on a much smaller scale, and ordinary Albanians are not so extensively involved. However, smuggled scrap metal, which is sold to the Montenegrin state-owned foundry, is still a key source of export revenue for Albania. Government revenues have declined considerably because the state no longer has control over the main customs points and cannot collect taxes.

Boy killers may force change in law

Article Abstract:

State legislators in Arkansas have stated that they will consider changes in the law to bring much stricter punishments for serious juvenile offenders. This follows concern about the fact that 14-year-old Mitchell Johnson and 12-year-old Andrew Golden, who killed a teacher and four pupils at their school in Jonesboro, AR, can only be kept in detention until they reach adulthood. Changes in the law could mean that juvenile offenders would be transferred to a state prison at the age of 21.

Bloody end of a fashionable affair

Article Abstract:

The murder of Maurizio Gucci, heir to one of the most prestigious fashion houses in Italy, remains a mystery, but has not come as a surprise to those familiar with the turbulent activities within the Gucci dynasty. He had made many enemies, with observers accusing him of not living in the real world. He was even alienated from his relatives, and was mean and tyrannical towards his family.
