Chequered career of a man with an eye for the deal

Article Abstract:

David Hart is currently advising the Conserative party on a number of defence-related projects, including Long Range Conventionally Armed Stand-Off Missile and the Tornado F3 Upgrade. However, he has never worked in the defence industry, and spends most of his time in farming and property development work. This has led to considerable criticism of his role within government policy-making from the Labour party. Some observers are concerned about the fact that he seems to have free access to discussions about issues which are extremely commercially and strategically sensitive.

Outsiders fail to dent the Moores tradition

Article Abstract:

The Littlewoods group, which covers retail stores, football pools and mail order activities, remains fully owned by the Moores family, the last great corporate dynasty in the UK. The family is very involved in the running of the group, and recently dismissed a group of senior executives who were thought to be failing to consult the family about contracts. It has managed to perform strongly, but is now facing growing competition, especially from the National Lottery.
