Argebtine bill threatens Falklands oil deal
Article Abstract:
Following the drawing up of a bilateral agreement between the UK and Argentina relating to oil exploration off the Falklands in 1995, William Marsden, the UK ambassador to Argentina is concerned that the passing of a draft bill on hydrocarbons by the Argentina's Congress may act against the earlier deal, causing problems for future oil exploration in the South Atlantic. At present, the Falklands is allowed to claim 9% of oil royalties against Argentina's 3%, with both sides agreeing "to disagree" on claims to sovereignty of the Falklands.
