Aricept - a new drug for Alzheimer's

Article Abstract:

Aricept is a drug which can help sufferers from Alzheimer's disease, though not in severe cases and it does not help with other types of dementia. United Kingdom health authorities are concerned about the cost of prescribing this drug, especially when its long-term efects are not clear. Eisai is carrying out UK marketing through Pfizer. The manufacturer is concerned that problems with UK sales could affect sales elsewhere. Meanwhile, the Alzheimer's Disease Society is concerned about the drug's usefulness. There is also the question of when the drug should be withdrawn from patients.

Anyone for pesticide?

Article Abstract:

Many immigrants, students and unemployed people in the UK have been involved in earning quite large amounts of money by participating in the testing of new chemicals. Indeed, international drug and chemical companies are now being attracted to the UK in large numbers in order to make use of this pool of human guinea-pigs. Some observers have raised concerns about this system, claiming that participants in trials are not being given sufficient information about the chemicals concerned.
