At the UN, the indecision goes on. In Kosovo, the despair is endless

Article Abstract:

There is growing international pressure on the Serbs to put an end to the repression of ethnic Albanians in Kosovo, Yugoslavia. Diplomatic activity has focused on convincing Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic that the threat of Nato air strikes is a very real one. These efforts are being hampered by continued indecision at the United Nations, even though more evidence has emerged of atrocities committed by the Serbs against Kosovo civilians.

Indonesia on a knife-edge

Article Abstract:

The crisis in East Timor could spread to the whole of Indonesia. It is rumoured that President B.J. Habibie is considering resigning, and this would make it possible for the military to take over power. The United Nations Security Council has sent five ambassadors to Jakarta, Indonesia, with the aim of persuading Indonesia to permit the use of foreign peacekeepers in East Timor. There is particular concern about the danger to United Nations staff in Dili, East Timor.
