BA to create 3500 jobs at Gatwick

Article Abstract:

Between now and 2001 the overall workforce at British Airways is to expand from 62,500 to 70,000, with 3,500 of the new jobs to be created at Gatwick airport. Over the next ten years it is being forecast that the annual amount of cargo being carried from Gatwick will rise from 200,000 tonnes to 400,000 tonnes and that annual passenger usage will increase from 7.6 million to 12 million. BA are to expand their number of Gatwick services through both increasing the frequency of existing flights and by adding new ones, especially to South America. This is to be done through both a rise in the number of planes using the airport and by the use of larger aircraft.

UK: STUDY REVEALS NO EQUALITY UNTIL 2015

Article Abstract:

A study by the Future Foundation has revealed that equality may be achieved in 2015 when working couples will be doing the same amount of housework per day, irrespective of gender. At the moment, women are doing an average of 90 minutes per day, whilst male partners are only doing 50 minutes. From 1,000 people surveyed, researchers found that nearly three-quarters of women believe they are doing less housework than their mothers, whilst two-thirds of men say they are definitely doing more than their fathers did.

UK: ETHNIC MINORITIES RELUCTANT TO JOIN POLICE

Article Abstract:

A Home Office report has revealed that many ethnic minorities are reluctant to join the police force as a result of the alleged racism experienced when stopped and searched on the street by officers. Many Asian and black people have complained of being stopped by police on the streets without adequate reason. This means that the Home Office is finding it increasingly difficult to meet the target of 8,265 ethnic minority officers in place in England and Wales by 2001.
