Britain's ready for the Internet challenge

Article Abstract:

Consumers in the UK are inventive and willing to accept foreign ideas and products. This means that the UK is in a good position to develop electronic business. The telephone is already used extensively for commercial purposes in the UK, and experience in this area is likely to be applied to other commercial activities. Furthermore, direct-to-home satellite television broadcasting is well established in the UK, which will be in a strong position if this becomes a significant technology for electronic commerce.

Who says we're being ripped off?

Article Abstract:

There has been considerable publicity recently about prices in the UK apparently being much higher than prices in other countries. In fact, this is not necessarily the case. Prices charged by UK supermarkets are higher than those charged in other countries, especially the US, but this merely reflects the fact that Britons generally attach more importance to quality than to price. There is little disparity between the UK and other countries in areas such as high-tech consumer goods and mobile phones.
