Big boy' toys ready to go at full steam

Article Abstract:

Finescale locomotives, which have generally been made by committed engineers over a very long time, have until recently been extremely underpriced. However, their true value is now beginning to be appreciated. There is particular interest in models by Stanley Beeson, regarded as the most talented finescale locomotive maker. Christie's South Kensington operation is to offer a number of Beeson models at a sale in Apr 1998. These will include a model of Southern Railway's King's Wimbledon, which is expected to sell for between 6,000 pounds sterling and 8,000 pounds sterling.

Executive pay

Article Abstract:

The intricacies of modern pay packages began in 1950 when Congress approved stock options as an incentive to corporate top brass. The 1970s ushered in the 'compensation consultants,' pay experts hired by CEOs to negotiate salary packages in their behalf with corporate boards. Exhorbitant pay for celebrity athletes and entertainers is being criticized at a time of declining profits for both industries. However, others believe, as agents would insist, that talent deserves its just compensation.
