Borderline case

Article Abstract:

There has been a considerable increase in interest in picture frames recently, and this is reflected in the fact that exhibitions of picture frames are currently being held at the National Portrait Gallery, New Bond Street and Bury Street, London, England. The first, entitled 'The Art of the Picture Frame,' looks at the development of portrait framing in the UK over the last 500 years. The other two are much smaller in scale. They follow a number of significant international exhibitions on the structure, art, techniques and significance of picture frames.

Mr Norris, mattress maker to the stars

Article Abstract:

Norris Bedding, which specialises in hand-made mattresses, is seeing considerable demand for its services. It has supplied a number of very well-known people, and has become very popular with interior designers and antique dealers. The company has only a small number of employees, but can produce a mattress in a very short time, compared with six-eight weeks for large department stores. It operates in an old-fashioned way, but maintains very high levels of service.

Pale skies, bare trees and frosty landscapes

Article Abstract:

Some of the UK's gardens which are open to the public are well worth visiting in winter, even though many trees have lost their leaves and the herbaceous borders seem empty. There are still many beautiful conifers, lakes, statues and monuments, and there is a strong sense of tranquility in winter. Gardens worth visiting include Polesden Lacey, Blickling Hall, Killerton and Wallington.
