Britax deal looks well-timed

Article Abstract:

Britax, the automotive components group becomes one of the leading suppliers in the automotive sector for safety and other aftermarket components, following its US$ 75mn purchase of US Public Safety Systems (PSE), a manufacturer of sirens, radar and video equipment for emergency vehicles, which will be financed through borrowings. PSE is growing at an estimated 8% per annum as a result of greater safety awareness, and Britax hopes that there will be opportunities for the cross-selling of both company's products.

Ladbroke completes US purchase

Article Abstract:

Following approval from the Colorado Gaming Control Commission, Ladbroke, the UK hotels and betting group has paid US$ 87mn for Colorado Gaming and Entertainment, the largest casino management company in Colorado, and will assume debts totalling US$ 53mn. Colorado Gaming owns three limited-stakes casinos. Ladbroke is expected to report increased interim profits when its results are announced on 27 August 1998.

C&W eyes Internet

Cable & Wireless (C&W), the telecommunications operator which is hoping to buy the Internet business owned by US telecom giant MCI for US$ 625mn, prior to MCI's proposed merger with US WorldCom, will not renegotiate the deal even though it is in talks with MCI. According to European regulators, MCI will have to dispose of more of its Internet business before they will approve the MCI/WorldCom merger. *
