Bumper to bumper with a built-in bar code

Article Abstract:

There are now a considerable number of nearly-new car supermarkets in the UK. These generally sell cars which have been purchased directly from large fleet operators and have travelled only a few thousand miles. The cars are in reasonable condition, but can look older than they actually are because they may not have been particularly well treated. Most are sold at trade guide prices, so no real bargains are available, but these car supermarkets offer a very wide range of models.

Where have all the dealers gone?

Article Abstract:

Many car dealership networks in the UK are now reducing in size, with the remaining outlets moving to large business park sites. Indeed, it is likely that the number of dealerships will fall by up to 40% over the next 10 years. Car manufacturers are increasingly moving into the territories of larger dealers, while smaller dealers are being forced out of the market. There is also a shift towards more innovative ways of selling cars.

Too smart to retire

Article Abstract:

Ex-company cars often end up as minicabs when they may still be reliable and lively. Purchase of Ford, Vauxhall and Rover at this stage can be worthwhile with care. However, some old bangers are not worth buying. Salesmen may be willing to bargain. Less rusty models can be found at the salvage yard, but they may be missing parts. Private sales vary from honest deals to risky ones without MOT.
