Can we break the language barrier?

Article Abstract:

A number of factors have combined to reduce the number of people training to be language teachers in the UK. Fewer students study two languages at A-level, and many universities and colleges are now offering combined honours degrees or courses with a smaller language teaching content than an ordinary degree. Furthermore, those who have studied languages now have more career opportunities outside teaching. The shortage of language teachers has led to a decline in students studying modern languages at A-level and as a first degree.

Do your dealing on the Internet to get ahead

Article Abstract:

There is considerable scepticism about online share dealing in the UK, and the number of trades over the Internet remains small, at an estimated 1,500 a day. However, trading over the Internet is set to expand rapidly in the early years of the 21st century as investors obtain improved access to information and connections to the Internet become faster. There will also be share dealing through other channels, such as digital television.

A student and a mother: how does she cope?

Article Abstract:

Many more women with young families are now seeking places on university courses, especially with the expansion of postgraduate courses. Many mature students now have pre-school children, and therefore require some childcare provision. Some universities are responding by improving creche facilities, which they recognise as important for their staff too.
