Charity work: who's doing who a favour?

Article Abstract:

It is very common for UK graduates to have misconceptions about working in the voluntary sector. They can become particularly frustrated when they learn that the voluntary sector is increasingly facing the same business pressures as the non-voluntary sector. Charity People and Charity Recruitment are both responding to this problem with schemes designed to make potential employees in the voluntary sector aware of how it operates and of the range of career opportunities.

Furthermore, they are keen to emphasize that they do not only need volunteers for the Christmas period. They also need donations of money, gifts and practical items. It is important to check what a particular charity really needs before donating gifts or practical items.
