Article Abstract:

Some observers believe that interactive films, which are a combination of a video game and a proper film, will become a significant new form of entertainment. There are now more than six such films available in the UK, with the most recently released, 'Privateer 2: The Darkening,' being the first interactive title to have been wholly developed in Europe. Producing an interactive film is very different from producing an ordinary film, with actors being required to present a number of different possible scenarios from which the viewer can then select.

Caught between the camera and the cradle

Article Abstract:

Television directors need to be obsessive, so it is a difficult career to combine with marriage and family life. Long hours are necessary to create a film. Women have suitable attributes for directing films, such as organisation and toughness, but often find it difficult to motivate and lead others. Cheryl Farthing, Sarah Hellings, Sharon Miller, Fizz Waters and Molly Dineen are all successful television directors who have abandoned their social lives and remained single to pursue their careers.

Room at the top ..

Article Abstract:

Over half of top grade civil servants are Oxbridge graduates but the service is widening recruitment. Senior staff 'adopt' a university and present prizes and speak in debates. Recruits need a good first degree and must pass group tests and individual interviews with the Civil Service Selection Board. Career progression to the top takes 15-20 years. Secondments help progess. A large group of 1960's grammar school people are moving up. The progress of women and ethnic minorities is limited.
