Starting from scratch

Article Abstract:

After 70 years of Communism imperial Russia cannot be restored. Russia has to achieve a new political and economic order from scratch. The former Soviet Union has disintegrated and the economy is in serious difficulty. The Bolsheviks eliminated the Russian intelligentsia and post-communist Russia is left with medieval Muscovy; thousands of peasants. Tsarism and communism were responsible for the banning of independent organisations. Russia lacks trade unions, independent churches and political parties.

The next Russian revolution

Article Abstract:

The end of communism in Russian happened so suddenly that people were unprepared for it. Political unstability in the other countries of the ex-Soviet Union made it an unfavourable time. President Yeltsin launched maximalism in Oct 1991 despite lack of commitment from the people. Parliament is divided and corrupt. Elections are not due until 1995/6, so some ministers wish to suspend the democratic revolution and impose authoritarian rule. Extreme nationalism may return.

The party is not yet over

Article Abstract:

The Moscow hearings on the legality of President Boris Yeltsin's ban against the Communist Party included subjective, political speeches. Although the Russian Federation government has infringed the population's economic and social rights in the Soviet constitution, it is not an unconstitutional body. Confusion arose over the difference in the concept of power and the concept of state. Most of the 12 members of the Constitutional Court were party members.
