Condoms? Disgusting. I'll have a ribbed pack

Article Abstract:

Jacqui Power, 33, opened a shop in Dublin, Ireland in 1992 that stocks over 200 sorts of condoms and associated products. The shop, Condompower, is also known as the Condomerie and has led to both controversy and praise, opening just before Ireland had its referendum on abortion. In July 1992 the law in Ireland was changed to allow retail outlets, but not vending machines, to sell condoms. The incidence of Aids in Ireland is much lower than other European Community countries but is growing rapidly. Between 6,000 and 7,000 condoms have been sold each week by Condompower, men and women customers being about equal, and mostly young people in their teens and twenties.

Britain takes pole position for global 'catch up.' (UK has potential for rapid economic growth)(Column)

Article Abstract:

The UK has seen a considerable decline in living standards over recent decades. However, it is probably wrong to assume that this situation will be permanent. The UK actually has considerable potential for relatively rapid growth, and in this way it will close the gap which has emerged between it and continental Europe and the US. In the long term, only lack of labour will act as a barrier to the potential output of the economy.
