Cream of the crop

Article Abstract:

There are now many hybrid berries available in the UK. The most well-known hybrid berry is the loganberry, which resulted from crossing a blackberry with a raspberry. Both the loganberry and the tayberry require a great deal of space, so gardeners may have to choose between them. The flavour of the tayberry is rather less intense than that of a well-ripened loganberry, and the tayberry is also more vulnerable to frost in the winter. Other hybrid berries include the sunberry, the Tummelberry and the Japanese wineberry.

A kingdom for a stage

Article Abstract:

Actor John Tordoff wanted the garden of his home in Hackney, London, England, which he opens to the public under the National Gardens Scheme, to be a nostalgic place. He places strong emphasis on design, with plants coming later. He is very attracted to creating structures, and does not regard himself as a plantsman. He feels that he has found out in a rather random way what plants need, and acknowledges that he has made some mistakes.
