Death by rhododendron

Article Abstract:

The American Garden, a garden form which began in the late 18th century, has been of considerable importance in the history of horticulture and garden design in the UK. Initially, it allowed the revival of some plants pushed aside by Capability Brown, and later formed the basis for the development of rhododendron and azalea culture. However, it has now become much less fashionable. Indeed, the rhododendron 'ponticum' is now regarded as a problem weed.
