Death rides again in New York

Article Abstract:

Members of the New York State Senate have recently voted overwhelmingly in favour of reintroducing capital punishment, a decision which has already given rise to protests. The state has traditionally been seen as generous and tolerant, and the death penalty was abolished there in 1972. However, many ordinary people now favour its reintroduction as they feel alarmed by the collapse of law and order and the very high crime rate.

Lone drivers banned from central New York

Article Abstract:

Cars with single occupants have been banned from entering most of Manhattan, New York, NY, between 6am and noon on weekdays. This follows very long traffic queues, partly because of the disruption to normal traffic flows following the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre and partly because of heightened security.
