Doctors get right to force-feed anorexic patients

Article Abstract:

The United Kingdom Mental Health Act Commission has decalred that physicians are permitted to force feed sufferers from anorexia to prevent them dying. This follows the death of an anorexia sufferer, Nikki Highes, in 1996 after the hospital where she was treated was advised that assault charges could be made if she were fed against her will. Mental health experts have welcomed the ruling, as have pressure groups which represent sufferers. Around a twentieth of the population could suffer from anorexia, and most sufferers are women.

Girls get angry, too

Article Abstract:

Girls now account for one in three violent juvenile crimes in the UK, compared with one in seven in 1977. This has prompted some experts to call for a reassessment of the way in which girls are treated by the criminal justice system. In general, the system is not accustomed to dealing with girls, and this can often mean that they are treated more harshly than boys. This is because it is regarded as less acceptable for girls to be involved in violence.

Doctors say it would take miracle to save Allwood babies

Article Abstract:

Medical experts believe that there is little chance of Mandy Allwood not miscarrying the remaining five of the eight babies she was carrying. She has been treated with drugs to prevent premature labour, but the remaining five foetuses will not survive unless their birth can be delayed for at least another five weeks. Ms Allwood failed to take medical advice to have some of the babies aborted.
