Dudley Cave

Article Abstract:

Dudley Cave was a humanitarian and a pioneer of gay rights. He was in the armed forces in Singapore in 1942 when it was captured, and he became a prisoner of war. He was sent to Changi Prison, Singapore, since illness meant that he was not seen as a productive worker. he started to accept his homosexuality while in this prison. He campaigned for gay men and lesbians to be ordinated and for same-sex relationships to be blessed by the Church, and he was a founder committee member of Gay Switchboard. This helped him realise problems suffered by gay people who are bereaved, so he established the Lesbian and Gay Bereavement Project.

I'm out with the in crowd

Article Abstract:

The outing of homosexuals is only justified in cases where public figures abuse their power to cause damage to other gay people. However, lesbians and gays are generally strongly in favour of the outing of homophobes, as homophobia is the cause of outing. Some observers dispute this view, claiming that there are never circumstances in which one gay person should rob another of the freedom to choose whether to be open about their sexuality. The confrontational techniques used by gay pressure group OutRage! cannot be justified.
