End of guns-to-buns group sounds last post for the big conglomerates

Article Abstract:

Food and engineering conglomerate Tomkins is to spin off its Rank Hovis McDougall food business into a separately quoted company in early 2000. It is anticipated that Rank Hovis McDougall will be valued at up to 2 billion pounds sterling. Tomkins will also sell off another large division, which includes bicycles and lawnmowers. After the demerger, the main divisions will be automotive parts and construction.

There are a number of possible reasons why ONdigital Chief Executive Stephen Grabiner decided to resign after only 18 months. Some observers believe that he was attracted to the prospects of rapid advancement offered by eVentures, Rupert Murdoch's new Internet venture capital operation. Others feel that he found it impossible to work with ONdigital Chmn Michael Green, who is widely regarded as being very demanding and difficult to work for.
