Fall of Italy's high priest of banking

Article Abstract:

Enrico Cuccia, who is now 91 years old, has dominated Italian finance for 50 years. However, he is now facing the possibility of being pushed aside. Two very significant deals - the takeover of Banca Commerciale Italiana by Unicredito Italiano and the purchase of Banca di Roma by San Paolo-IMI - were agreed without his approval having been sought first. These deals will prompt an important shift in the balance of power in Italian banking, with Cuccia's Mediobanca, the only real merchant bank in Italy, having its independence undermined and being made vulnerable to predators.

It was the perfect crime. So who made the fatal error?

Article Abstract:

The murder of law student Marta Russo in Rome, Italy, in 1997 continues to attract considerable controversy. Many ordinary Italians have been very concerned about the random nature of the crime. Giovanni Scattone and Salvatore Ferraro, junior lecturers in the legal philosophy department of La Sapienza University, were arrested and subsequently found guilty of murdering Russo. They had no apparent motive for the crime, but prosecutors claimed that they were trying to commit the perfect crime as an intellectual dare.
