First years don't prove a thing - look to Labour history ...

Article Abstract:

The UK Labour party seems to have performed well in its first year in government. Prime Minister Tony Blair has been lucky in some respects, but has also shown considerable political skill. However, history indicates that the situation will not necessarily persist. Indeed, it has been common in the past for Labour governments to experience rapid decline after a successful first year. The experiences of the past show that the current Labour government's performance cannot really be judged until it faces a really serious challenge.
