French spies shop for trade secrets

Article Abstract:

French spies investigate UK subsidiaries of US defence companies under cover of diplomatic work. A French document lists intelligence sought, including targets Carla Hills, ex-US trade negotiator, the B-2 stealth bomber and the V-22 Osprey aircraft. Germany, the UK and Sweden are more efficient at commercial spying than France. The French General Directorate for External Security attempts to steal US high definition television developments.

Briton sells babies of Bosnia rape victims to US

Article Abstract:

Briton John Davies is under investigation on suspicion of operating an illegal adoption scheme under which pregnant peasant women in eastern Europe are persuaded to give up babies which are then taken away, fattened up and sent to couples in North America for a fee of $20,000. He has focused on the Balkans, especially on pregnant victims of 'ethnic cleansing,' investigators believe. He denies that he has done anything illegal.

Baby-trade gangs face global curbs

Article Abstract:

An international treaty on adoption due to come into effect in Apr 1995 while eliminate the worst abuses in the international adoption trade. Adopting from abroad has become common in North American and western Europe, and adoption agents can sometimes be involved in illegal practices. Many of the children come from eastern Europe, where there are many unlicensed baby traffickers.
