Article Abstract:

The High Court has ruled that Jeff and Jenny Bramley, who went into hiding with their foster daughters between Sep 1998 and Jan 1999, can continue to care for the girls until their adoption application is reviewed in 2001. Joint custody has been awarded to the Bramleys and Cambridgeshire social services. Abduction charges against the Bramleys have been dropped, and they have received only a caution. Social workers were widely criticized for raising doubts about the Bramleys' parenting abilities, but have been partly vindicated by subsequent revelations about the couple.

Why won't they bring our David home?

Article Abstract:

The families of the 33 Royal Welch Fusiliers currently being held hostage in Bosnia believe that their sons should no longer be the victims of indecision on the part of the UK government. They are calling for the government to take action to free the hostages as quickly as possible. At present, they feel that their sons are drifting in the middle of the lack of coordination between Nato and the UN.

It's OK to say 'yah' but not 'oo arrh.' (problems facing people with a strong regional accent)

Article Abstract:

People who have a strong regional accent are often teased by others, and take this as very serious personal criticism. They find that they are penalised in various ways, such as being unable to find suitable employment, and some are even driven to suicide as a result. It is now clear that accent can play a key role in determining a person's social opportunities.
