How Sinn Fein strolled through Westminster

Article Abstract:

Three UK Labour party MPs have been strongly criticised by the Labour chief whip, Donald Dewar, for allowing Sinn Fein members to enter the House of Commons. Security service MI5 has emphasised that it did not contact the Labour party about the visit of Sinn Fein members and that it was not involved in a surveillance operation at the House of Commons. The Labour MPs who held discussions with the Sinn Fein members were unaware that they were observed by a nearby group of House of Commons security officers dressed in casual clothes.

Identity of drugs case minister 'to be revealed within days.'

Article Abstract:

The police may shortly caution the UK Cabinet minister's son who is accused of drug-dealing. This would allow the minister to make his identity public before he is named under the cover of parliamentary privilege. The government feels that the matter will be rapidly resolved if the minister is permitted to defend his position in public. In contrast, it could get of control if a rebel Labour MP or an opposition MP uses House of Commons privilege to name the minister.
