Article Abstract:

There are now many radio stations broadcasting their programming over the Internet. One of the pioneers of Internet-based radio has been RealNetworks, which is now offering version 5.0 of its RealAudio player. This has both audio and video capabilities, and allows stereo sound to be obtained by anyone using a 28.8 modem. Many Internet users find it extremely interesting to be able to listen to radio stations from many different places in the world.

Independent radio station B92 has played a significant role in Serbian politics since 1989, especially in opposing former President Slobodan Milosevic. It is argued that B92 still has a vital part to play in the new democratic Serbia.

The internet has played a key role in allowing pirate radio stations to flourish in the UK. There is strong competition for expanding internet radio audiences, and traditional broadcasters are now clashing with pirate operators.
