How the world's favourite agency became the week's big story

Article Abstract:

Advertising agency Saatchi and Saatchi is not a particularly large company, employing 11,000 people, but its recent problems have attracted media attention around the world. The reason why it seems to be such an important company is mainly to do with brothers Maurice and Charles Saatchi, who have ensured that it has remained different from other advertising agencies ever since they founded it in 1970. Its style has been very different from that of other agencies, and some of its ads have now become classics.

'One Chop Zhu,' our favourite Communist

Article Abstract:

Chinese Prime Minister Zhu Rongji is introducing reform policies that will mean large numbers of ordinary people lose their job. However, he is probably the only Chinese politician who has the respect of ordinary people. He has shown himself to be a very accomplished technocrat, and has gained a reputation for being decisive and self-assured. Many western statesmen are keen to establish positive relations with him, whereas his fellow politicians have not really found favour in the western world.

Red wine, olive oil, chop-sticks

Article Abstract:

The city of Hanoi, Vietnam, was once subject to French colonial rule, and there are still many signs of French influence in areas such as architecture and food. Hanoi is beginning to attract considerable numbers of visitors, with reports of visitor numbers rising to 597,800 in the first half of 1999. The city's attractions include the French Quarter, the Old Quarter, the Furniture Gallery, located in the old 19th century 'Quang Lac' theatre, and Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum.
