The actor playing all the tunes

Article Abstract:

Performing is much safer than real life, according to operatic actor Andrew Shore. Performing makes you free to be whoever you want to be, and takes you away from your real self. He is an instinctive performer, and has a great ability to engage with audiences. This is clearly seen in his role as Gianni Schicchi in English National Opera's new production of Puccini's 'Il Trittico.' He sings bass-baritone very well, but does not really see himself as an opera singer.

To the voice, with love

Article Abstract:

Composer Jonathan Dove feels that he is drawn to drama but that he needs to proceed in a lyric way. He greatly enjoys hearing other people's expressions of deep emotions, but cannot do this himself. He likes Stephen Sondheim, but is more attracted to singers, and this is reflected in his music. He has a strong desire to explore possibilities, and this is why he responded to Glyndebourne Opera's request to become involved in local Community Opera projects.
